ASU, LSU and Virginia Advance to College World Series

Three schools will represent CBS Collegiate Sports Properties in Omaha, Neb., for the 2009 College World Series, it was decided this weekend across the country.

Arizona State (49-12) completed a best-of-three sweep of Clemson to advance to the eight-team series for the 21st time.

Likewise, LSU (51-16) beat Rice twice to book their 15th trip to Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium.

The Tigers will face Virginia (49-13-1) to open the series, as the Cavaliers make their first appearance in the tournament. Virginia upset then-No. 1 UC Irvine in the preliminary round before going on the road to defeat Ole Miss, 2-games-to-1 in Oxford, Miss.

The winners of two double-elimination, four-team brackets will meet in a three-game series to determin the national champion.

All games will be televised nationally on ESPN/ESPN2 starting Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14. The championship series begins Monday, June 22.
